Coca Cola Scholarship Opportunity

THE COCA-COLA SCHOLARS PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIP is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors each year. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, and their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. With the 28th class in 2016, the Foundation has provided over 5,700 Coca-Cola Scholars with more than $60 million in educational support. 150 Coca-Cola Scholars are selected each year to receive this $20,000 scholarship.

1. Students submit projects that respond to the prompt in one of the following media categories:
  • Art
  • Photography
  • Music
  • Creative writing
  • Video (for current college students) 
2. Five students will each be awarded $1,000 toward their college tuition. There will be one awardee per medium.

3. Students reflect on this year's prompt: Represent your views about the concepts of education vs. learning.

NC State Welcomes Fred Gregory, Johnson Space Center Astronaut

Join NC State's College of Engineering for a Lecture and Astronaut Scholar Foundation Presentation

The College of Engineering will be hosting Fred Gregory for a lecture and Astronaut Scholar Foundation presentation on October 19.
When: Wednesday, October 19 | 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Frederick D. Gregory was born in Washington, D.C., in 1941, and received a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1964 and a Master’s degree in Information Sciences from George Washington University in 1977.
Following graduation from the Air Force Academy, Gregory took helicopter training, earned his wings in 1965 and served initial assignments as an H-43 helicopter rescue pilot at Vance AFB, Okla., and at Danang Air Base in Vietnam.
Gregory’s first space assignment was as pilot of Space Shuttle Challenger, which soared into orbit in 1985 with a crew of seven and the European Spacelab, a pressurized 23-foot laboratory positioned in the cargo bay. The crew had plenty of company – 24 rats and two squirrel monkeys who were to become real nuisances. Read More.

Want to be recognized for your community service?

Prudential Service Award
Prudential Financial, in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, is sponsoring its 22nd annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.
Students in grades 5-12 are invited to apply for the awards if they have made meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service within the past 12 months. Students must complete the application by Nov. 8 and submit it for certification to Mrs. Wood. The school scholarship committee will then select the top recipients in early November and submit those names for state-level judging.
The middle and high school recipients for each state will be named Feb. 7. The top middle and high school candidates in each state receive $1,000, an engraved silver medallion, and a trip to Washington, D.C., with a parent for four days of recognition events scheduled for May 6-9. Ten national honorees will be named and receive an additional $5,000 in awards.
